Years ago when I first came to the Tucson area I was on a mission to check out the famed climbing of Mount Lemmon. I was drawn like many to a photo of a climb called Steve’s Arete. It was on the cover of two different guide books I had, and for good reason. In the photo a climber hangs on to the edge of a narrow rib of rock seeming to be on the brink of thousands of feet of air before the ground would be encountered. This photo exemplifies windy point to climbers and sightseers.
These days windy point gets used more than ever. Many drop their trash next to full dumpsters. Some come to the point after dark to drink and throw their bottles over the edge. More than ever this beautiful place needs our help. Arizona Climbing Guides would like to arrange a clean up day at the point. Any that are interested can email or call us through the website.
